Homo Faber guide

The Homo Faber Guide is based in Italy, where design, arts and an artisanal approach are in the DNA. It’s lovely to have been selected as a UK ceramicist alongside such a talented group of makers. My listing has some wonderful photos by Sarah Weal taken in my studio https://www.homofaber.com/en/discover/julie-nelson-zfsatl

Elongated spine

I have just completed a commission from Willer for two 80cm large pieces for a special client in London, my tallest yet, and fired in a larger kiln than my studio allows, transporting the unfired pieces to east London.

Grounding project creatives

It was a special day welcoming our Grounding Project creatives to the Horniman Museum, to see their wonderful bird sculptures exhibited so beautifully by the museum’s own team. They were proud to see their home towns on display.

Flock project at the Horniman Museum, SE23 3PQ

Flock Project, an idea conceived in 2018, has had a timely settle in to the Horniman Museum, in South London, from 27th May until April 2024. At a time when migration is the biggest story in the news, Flock Project quietly reflects on the memories of refugees, many of whom have overcome difficult journeys to the UK, expressed through clay and ‘birdcraft’. Just before the museum undergoes a major refurbishment, the project connects the birds on display with the historic original museum labels which highlights migration routes found in nature. Please visit this wonderful Museum in Forest Hill. To see more on the project please visit www.flockproject.co.uk

New lamp collaboration with Porta Romana

From early 2022 I have been developing ideas for the production of lamps with UK lighting company Porta Romana. My wall Constellation series was the source of inspiration, as a library of forms that draw on nature’s diverse designs. Fir table lamp and Luna wall light are the first pieces and are available in ‘pepper’ and ‘blanched plaster’ finishes and have been launched at London Design Festival 2023.

In Conversation with the inspirational Roksanda

On a blustery November evening we gathered in the glistening glamour of Roksanda’s Mount Street shop for an ‘In Converstion’ evening with myself, Roksanda and design and arts writer Emily Steer. It was such a special event and I loved the opportunity to talk about my ideas and processes. Thank you to Roksanda and her wonderful team.

The venue is Mah Gallery at 2B Vyner Street, London E2.
